Child-friendly privacy notice

Hello! This notice is just for you to understand how we look after your data when you use BoomReader and BoomWriter. Your school is in charge of your data, but we (BoomApps/Squirrel Learning Ltd) are the people who keep it safe while you are using the app.

We follow a special set of rules called the Age Appropriate Design Code, which means we are committed to making sure our app is safe and good for you.

1. Who is the Boss of Your Data?

BoomApps (The Apps)	Your School	We are the helpers! We take the information your school gives us and use it to run the reading app and keep it safe.
Data Helpers (The Connector)	Your School	Data helpers securely moves your name and class and some other information about you from your school's computer system to our app, but only if your school says it's okay.

2. What Information Do We Use?

We only use the information we need to help you read and write! We don't collect secret stuff.

We Use This...	To Do This...
Your Name and Class	To give you your own private login and put you on the correct class list.
What You Read (Reading Logs, Times, Comments)	To show you, your teacher, and your parent how many books you have read and how well you are doing. This helps you get better at reading!
What You Write (Book Reviews, BoomWriter Content)	To let you share your stories and reviews with your class, as part of the app.
Special Information (Like if you get Pupil Premium or need SEND support)	Only if your school approves it and uses a Connector. We use this to help your teacher see if the app is working best for you.
Technical Stuff (Your computer's IP address)	To make sure the app is running smoothly, fix any bugs, and keep out people who shouldn't be here (security). We never get your exact location just the region you are accessing the website from.

3. How Do We Keep Your Data Safe?

We promise three things about your data:

1. We Don't Share with Advertisers: We do not use your name, your reading logs, or your class details to show you advertisements, or to sell things to you or other companies. We focus only on reading.
2. We Keep It Locked Up: We keep all your information safe on secure computers in Europe. Only our trusted team members can access it, and only if they need to fix a problem for your class.
3. Your Name Disappears: If you leave your school, or your school stops using BoomApps:
   • We will wipe your name and other personal details after 90 days.
   • We keep the reading stats (like how many books were read), but because your name is wiped, nobody can trace the stats back to you. This helps us make the app better for future students.

4. What If You Have a Problem or Question?

I want to see my data.	Ask your teacher or parent. They can contact the school, who is the only one who can ask us for your data.
I want to delete my data.	Ask your teacher or parent. The school must tell us before we can delete it immediately.
I think something is wrong!	Tell your teacher or parent right away! They can help you contact the person in charge of data at BoomApps: the Data Team.

And finally …

Our main job at BoomApps is to make reading and writing fun, but our most important job is to keep you safe and your data private. We promise to always put your best interests first!
