Understanding Wonde overnight synchronisation

This guide explains how pupil and staff records are updated in BoomReader when your school uses Wonde and what to do if changes do not appear.

For MIS-managed schools (Wonde): pupils, classes and staff come from your school's MIS and changes usually sync overnight, so make those changes in your MIS rather than in BoomReader.

Follow the steps

  1. Before you start: This school uses Wonde to manage pupils and staff from the school MIS. Updates to pupil and staff records are normally synchronised overnight. The School Hub will not show manual pupil-management controls for MIS-managed schools, so do not create, edit or remove MIS-managed pupils or staff in BoomReader. Use neutral examples like Example Pupil and Example Class when testing.

  2. 1. Where pupil and staff records are managed

Only change pupil and staff information in your school MIS. For Wonde schools, the School Hub will not provide manual controls for creating or editing MIS-managed accounts. Use School Hub to confirm the school and apps available, and use Reader to view pupils once they have been synchronised.

  3. 2. Understand the timing

Wonde updates are normally synchronised overnight. Do not expect MIS changes to appear in Reader immediately after you make them in the MIS.

  4. 3. Confirm the change in BoomReader the next day

Open Reader, select the relevant class (for example, Example Class) and check the pupil list or the pupil profile for Example Pupil to confirm the change has appeared after the overnight synchronisation.

  5. 4. Check related areas if necessary

If you are checking broader school-level data, use Boom Insights (the interface may still show the label Data Dashboard in places) to review school-wide counts once the sync has completed.

  6. 5. If a change is still missing after waiting

Ask your school MIS administrator to confirm the change was saved correctly in the MIS and that the MIS synchronisation to Wonde has completed. If the MIS shows the change but it still does not appear in BoomReader after the next overnight sync, escalate to your school IT support or the service support channels your school uses.

  7. 6. What not to do in BoomReader

Do not attempt to manually create, edit or remove MIS-managed pupils or staff in Reader or the School Hub. Doing so conflicts with the MIS source of truth for Wonde schools.

  8. What happens next

  9. MIS changes are picked up during the next overnight synchronisation and become visible in Reader and, where applicable, Boom Insights / Data Dashboard. If changes do not appear after one overnight sync, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

Something not working?

A pupil or staff member is missing in Reader the day after the change was made in the MIS.

Ask your MIS administrator to confirm the record was saved in the MIS and included in the Wonde export. If the MIS shows the record and the export has completed, wait one more overnight cycle and contact your school IT lead if it still does not appear.

You need a change to appear the same day.

Because Wonde synchronises normally overnight, same-day changes are not guaranteed. Update the MIS and contact your MIS administrator or IT support to explore any available emergency procedures in your school.

A class list looks different in Boom Insights / Data Dashboard after the sync.

Class and pupil membership reflect the MIS data after synchronisation. Confirm the MIS assignments for the pupils and wait for the next overnight sync. If data still differs, ask your MIS administrator to check the export and mapping to BoomReader.
