Inspiring a nation of readers in 2026

In 2026, the UK marks the National Year of Reading 2026 — a country-wide campaign led by the Department for Education together with the National Literacy Trust, designed to reignite our love of reading across all ages and backgrounds.

At BoomReader we are proud to partner in this mission, bringing its energy straight into the classrooms of many UK schools already using our digital reading-record platform.

Why it matters

The decline in reading for pleasure among children and young people is a real concern — just one in three young people aged 8 to 18 told researchers they enjoyed reading in their free time. ReadingZone

Reading isn’t just an academic skill; it opens doors to better wellbeing, stronger writing skills, greater confidence and even higher future earnings. National Literacy Trust

By joining the National Year of Reading, BoomReader stands alongside schools, families, libraries and communities to make reading for pleasure a visible, enjoyable, daily habit.

How BoomReader is Supporting the Year of Reading

1. Integrating the theme “If you’re into it, read into it”
The campaign’s strapline encourages children to link their interests – whether music, film, craft, sport or gaming – with reading. National Literacy Trust
BoomReader’s reading-log tools and digital library can help students track what they’re reading, reflect on how it links to their passions and share that connection in the classroom.

2. School-wide events and challenges
We’ll work with your school to launch themed reading challenges throughout 2026: for example, “Top 10 Schools for reading”, or “National Reader Leaderboard”. These tie neatly into the national ambition of making reading visible and social, not just solitary.

3. Tracking progress & celebrating success
With BoomReader’s dashboard and reading-log features, teachers can monitor reading engagement, set school-wide targets tied to the Year of Reading, and celebrate milestones with badges, certificates and digital displays. This supports reading for pleasure as well as reading for progress.

4. Partnering with families, libraries and communities
The National Year of Reading emphasises that reading happens everywhere – at home, in libraries, in communities. BoomReader can support schools in sharing reading logs with families, linking with local library promotions, and engaging community reading events. We’ll provide downloadable templates, suggested communication pieces and ideas for inviting broader reading participation.

Why it’s a great moment for your school

  • Aligning your school’s reading culture with a national campaign adds profile, momentum and fresh energy.

  • Using BoomReader during this Year means you are part of a wider movement, not just within your school but across the country.

  • Because the campaign embraces all forms of reading and personal interests, it gives you a flexible hook to reach reluctant readers and engage diverse learners.

  • You’ll be able to show measurable outcomes: increased reading logs, more pleasure-based reading, greater home-school reading links, all supporting literacy and the broader curriculum.

How to get started

  1. Register your school’s involvement with the National Year of Reading via the official site Go All In (goallin.org.uk) to receive campaign resources and updates. goallin.org.uk

  2. Plan your school launch: Set a date to kick off the campaign in your school (for example, January 2026), introduce the reading-for-pleasure challenge, and launch your BoomReader themed reading logs.

  3. Use BoomReader to track and celebrate: Create a special Year of Reading cohort in BoomReader, set target reading minutes or book counts, invite students and families to join, and schedule celebration events at key points (half-term, end of term, summer).

  4. Share and connect: Invite pupils to share what they’re reading and how it ties to their interests – craft, sport, gaming, music, food, nature – fitting the “If you’re into it, read into it” theme. Use the BoomReader platform or school displays to showcase that.

  5. Use national and local resources: Leverage toolkits, readings lists, libraries and community events from the National Year of Reading campaign alongside your BoomReader logs to enrich variety, widen reading choices and reinforce the connection to the national moment.

  6. Keep an eye on our website for FREE resources to help you promote and celebrate a year of reading.

2026 is our chance to spark a reading revolution. The National Year of Reading encourages the nation to rediscover the joy of reading, to connect it with our passions and to make it part of who we are. goallin.org.uk
With BoomReader in your school, you’re perfectly placed to turn that excitement into action: tracking reading, engaging students, involving families and celebrating success — all under a national spotlight. Together, we’ll show that reading is fun, relevant and powerful.

Let’s make 2026 a year to remember: a year of reading, discovery and shared stories.
